ONLINE: Bottoming Safety 201: Negotiating Edgeplay Safely as a Bottom or Submissive
This class is intended to empower folks for more direct communication of limits, and to give some additional tools for expressing themselves in negotiation.
This will be a live, online class offered through Zoom. No on-site tickets will be available.
We'll be discussing how best to negotiate scenes with partners both new and established for several kinds of kink play considered "edge play." This will include:
- what is edge play? and how the definition of this can shift in a RACK kink framework
- an overview on boundaries and limits, both hard and soft, and how to convey them to folks you'd like to play with as well as respecting them yourself through safe wording or safe signaling
- how to establish safe signs or signals for play where you can't safeword by the design of the scene
- concerns about aftercare for bottoms and tops in intense scenes, and particularly in scenes where we may be treading close to personal triggers
- concrete ideas about things to ask when playing with: fire, breathplay, knives, blood, needles, intense roleplay, and rope suspension or rope that limits your personal ability to safeword.
Negotiation is how we can do What It Is That We Do in a way that is consensual and as safe as we can make it; acquiring specific skills for negotiating edgeplay with less trial-by-fire is a win for the community as a whole. Especially for bottoms who may be interested in an underlying way in certain play but may lack concrete knowledge, this class is intended to empower folks for more direct communication of limits, and to give some additional tools for expressing themselves in negotiation, although it is a "take what you need and leave the rest" overview of many types of play under this umbrella.
PRESENTER:
Laura Boyle is a writer, polyamorist, and educator who has been teaching classes on polyamory, sexuality, boundaries, kink, and the intersection of those on a local level and at conventions since 2018. She is the author of Ready for Polyamory: A Pragmatic Guide to Consensual Non-Monogamy. After more than 15 years in consensually non-monogamous relationships, in polycules that have ranged from temporarily closed Vs to constellations whose shapes are increasingly indescribable depending on which relationships folks consider worth including, she loves to share practical information learned from years of fixing her own mistakes and missteps.
