Pick Your Path: Intro to Suspension Transitions

Patterns, schmatterns…let’s talk about the reasoning behind different transition choices, and build your ability to create unique sequences!

Description

This class is intended for folks who are just starting to work through transitions in suspension, and is self- or partnered-suspension friendly. To begin, Shay & Angel will bring the class along on the process to collaboratively create a demonstration transition sequence, discussing the “decision points” and pros and cons of different selections. Participants will then tie (or be tied in, or both) a suspension-worthy chest and leg harness—the instructors will quickly guide you through tying a triskelion chest harness and leg ladder harness, or you can tie your personal favorite. Within an outline, participants will pick their paths, utilizing these harnesses for partial and full suspension sequences.

Please carefully read our COVID guidelines to determine whether attending this event is within your risk profile. Particularly, note the k/n95 mask requirements and when masks may be removed. Also note that up-to-date vaccination INCLUDING BOOSTER IF ELIGIBLE is mandatory for all attendees, absolutely no exceptions. Details below.

Details:

  • Class from 2 - 5:30pm, doors open at 1:30pm
  • Attendance is limited to ensure everyone has "air time" and personalized instruction. There will be a hard point for each pair or self-suspender. Each ticket includes up to two humans – a tying pair, or a self-suspender and (optional) non-tying spotter.
  • Supplies: A basic suspension kit.
  • Attire: Temperature in the space can vary; we recommend bringing layers. You're welcome to wear whatever you're comfortable doing rope in – top nudity is welcomed, but please keep genitals covered.

Pre-requisites:

  • Tyers: The ability to independently tie a suspension-worthy chest harness, hip harness, and secure hanger and upline configuration.
  • Flyers: Ability to recognize and communicate physical and emotional concerns while in rope. Experience with being in partials and at least two full suspension positions (such as face-up, face-down, side, and/or inversion).
  • Self-suspenders: All the requirements for both tyers and flyers, with specific experience in a self-suspension context.
  • Everyone: Knowledge of self-suspension safety basics. Risk awareness and self-knowledge to participate at a level that is safe(r) for you.

This event is 18+, ID required. All attendees must abide by our code of conduct and photo policy. Please also read our release form, which attendees are required to sign at the door. The ticket price is fully refundable up to 5 days prior to the event, using the link at the bottom of the order email. Within 5 days of the event, the entry fee is transferable but not refundable.

Our COVID precautions include:

  • Requiring proof of up to date vaccination (which includes a booster, if eligible), for all attendees, staff, etc – absolutely no exceptions. Sufficient proof of vaccinated status is a state/federally issued vaccine card, a legible photograph of your card, or digital vaccine record. Please see this page for guidance on what it means to be "up to date" on your vaccination. Attendees who arrive without proof of vaccination per the parameters above will not be allowed entry, and will not have their tickets refunded.
  • Performing a symptom screen (including touchless temperature check) and attestation at the door.
  • Strictly limiting capacity to allow for physical distancing. Note that Little Boxes is large and airy, with 2 story ceilings and square footage capacity far exceeding our attendance cap.
  • Bringing portable air purifiers with HEPA filters.
  • Providing hand sanitizer throughout the space.
  • Masking – see below

We provide and require k/n95 masks – you can put them under your cute cloth mask! These masks provide very robust protection, even with one-way masking, regardless of what anyone around you is doing. If you determine that removing your k/n95 mask is within your risk profile, you may remove them when:

  • Eating/drinking, while also more than 6 feet distanced from other attendees.
  • While you are actively tying, while also more than 6 feet distanced from other attendees.
  • Note that at this time, we do not anticipate requiring rapid tests for folks who wish to remove their masks while suspending and physically distanced from other attendees (although of course everyone has the option to protect themselves by choosing to wear their k/n95 mask continuously). Depending on COVID rates, this may be modified in the future – any modification information will be emailed to attendees at least 1 week prior to the event.

As always, despite all mitigation efforts, exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any location where people are present. When deciding whether attending in-person events at this time is right for you, please weigh your individual risk factors (health conditions, unvaccinated or immunocompromised contacts, age, and so on) to take care of yourselves and those around you.

Reduced price tickets available upon request. Please contact the producers at twistedwindows@gmail.com with any accessibility questions.
