Element of Suspension Harness vol 2— Shibari Essentials

Diving into your Shibari journey.

Breaking down the elements of the upper body harness for suspension.

Description

This series of two classes is designed for Tops & bottoms seeking to enhance rope-related skills and progress to full suspension.

This is the second half of the series.

Every body is different, and one harness doesn't fit all. In this class, we will break down some of the commonly used upper body harnesses for suspension, analyze the elements of "what made this work for you, and what doesn't", pros & cons of each element.

We invite you to come with a curious mind. As a Rigger, drill on the elements and share your thoughts on the possibilities while tying a harness. As a bottom, experience and discover what works for your body and your preferences.

We hope to start the discussion for designing & building suspension harnesses for each bottom individually.

We are not here to teach a specific harness.

In this class we will cover:

  • Different elements in upper body harnesses, their application and affect
  • Risk & Safety in suspension
  • How to attach a secure upline
  • Approaching rope in practice, not a scene
  • Effective communication in rope
  • Body management & balance for bottoms

Advance warning from Mooooo: I am still a student of Shibari myself, and I always will be. The content is heavily based on my own tying and learning experiences. My aim is to share what I discovered in my journey and start the conversation about customising ties for individual rope bottoms.

To get the most out of this class, you will have to...

  • Familiar with basic column ties & common friction
  • Comfortable with your rope handling skills and ability to manage various tension

If you are working toward suspension but do not feel quite comfortable yet, you are welcome to audit the class. You will not have a suspension spot to practice, but you can still practice the pattern with your tying partners.

What do you need to bring?

  • 5 x 30ft rope (but feel free to bring more!)
  • Synthetic ropes for upline if that is within your practice
  • You & your bottom's aftercare needs.

The host will also provide yoga mat to tie on, snacks, and water.

Common Q&A

  1. Do I need to bring my own rope?

The host will provide jutes for everyone to use. However, it is strongly advised to bring your own ropes.

  1. Do I need a rope bottom?

Yes. You will need a rope bottom to practice with. If you are a switch, pair up with your switch-y friends! You learn the most if you could experience both sides!

  1. What should I wear?

For Riggers: Anything you feel the most comfortable in. You will feel
warmer than your bottom, so don't put too many layers on!

For bottoms: Tighter clothes are the best. For example: tank tops and yoga pants. If you wear bras, please remember to take them off or wear wireless bras for upper body ties.

  1. Will I be able to learn to suspend someone?

We will attach an upline to the harness. We will ask the bottom to suspend themselves by sitting/leaning into the harness or lifting their legs if they feel comfortable.

If you had prior experience with suspension, you may fully suspend your bottom if that is within your practice.

Shibari Essentials

Shibari Essentials is a series of in-person classes. We will be focusing on different Shibari patterns as well as applicable techniques for you to create amazing experiences with your partners.

For each class, we will be focusing on a tie and the variations. You may pick and mix your classes and only attend to those you are interested in.
