Balancing Act — Shibari Essentials

Diving into your Shibari journey.

A partial suspension and all the essential stuff to know.

Description

This is a partial suspension class for Riggers and bottoms seeking to enhance rope-related skills and progress to full suspension.

To attend this class...

  • Riggers should be familiar with a suitable upper body harness that supports the bottom
  • Both the Top and bottom must understand basic rope safety and risk

In this class, we'll be going through a simple yet versatile partial suspension and all the essential elements for progressing to full suspension:

  • Risk & safety in partial suspension
  • How to attach a secure upline
  • Basic body manipulation technique
  • Effective communication in rope
  • Body management & balance for bottoms

What do you need to bring?

  • 5 x 30ft rope (but feel free to bring more!)
  • 1-2 short ropes
  • Synthetic ropes for upline if that is within your practice
  • You & your bottom's aftercare needs.

The host will also provide yoga mat to tie on, snacks, and water.

Common Q&A

  1. Do I need to bring my own rope?

The host will provide jutes for everyone to use. However, it is strongly advised to bring your own ropes.

  1. Do I need a rope bottom?

Yes. You will need a rope bottom to practice with. If you are a switch, pair up with your switch-y friends! You learn the most if you could experience both sides!

  1. What should I wear?

For Riggers: Anything you feel the most comfortable in. You will feel
warmer than your bottom, so don't put too many layers on!

For bottoms: Tighter clothes are the best. For example: tank tops and yoga pants. If you wear bras, please remember to take them off or wear wireless bras for upper body ties.

  1. Why is this more expensive?

We have limited suspension space, hence we have to raise the ticket price to cover rent & compensation for the instructors.

  1. Will I be able to learn to suspend someone?

We will attach an upline to the harness to "stress-test" the harness if that's within your practice. The majority of the bottom's weight will stay on the ground for that part of the exercise.
