Tying & Flying: Self-Suspension Afternoon Intensive

Sold Out!

Introduction to Self-Suspension, with Shay Tiziano

Description

Self-suspension can be used for dynamic movement, exploring intense sensation, performance, learning partnered bondage, ritual, and more. After a discussion of general principles and safety considerations specific to self-suspension, participants will practice support line skills and be guided through a basic face-up self suspension, with a possible transition to an inversion and introduction to some in-air variations.

Please carefully read our COVID guidelines to determine whether attending this event is within your risk profile. Particularly, note that n95/kn95 masks are required, and full vaccination INCLUDING BOOSTER IF ELIGIBLE is mandatory for all attendees. Details below.

This class utilizes an “inverted classroom” format – participants are expected to have working knowledge of a self-tied chest harness and hip harness and basic bondage safety prior to coming to class. We will still tie the harnesses as a class, so attendees are not expected to have them memorized, but familiarity will allow us to spend the class time polishing your harnesses and working on “in-air” skills. These harnesses can be found in free videos; specific links and alternative Tying & Flying page number references will be e-mailed to attendees.

Pre-requisites: This class is intended as a "101" level introduction to self-suspension. Attendees should have experience with tying on the ground (as both a top and bottom, and/or self-tying), and be very comfortable with non-cinching single column ties. In order to self-suspend in class, participants should review the health evaluation articles that will be e-mailed to attendees, and have body & risk awareness to participate at a level that is safe(r) for them.

Details:

  • Class from 3 - 6:30pm, doors open at 2:40pm
  • Class size is limited to ensure everyone has space, "air time," and personalized instruction. There will be a hard point for each attendee. Each attendee may bring one non-tying "spotter" if they would like, but this is not required.
  • You will need a basic self-suspension kit. There may be some supplies available to borrow, pleasecontact Shay with any questions.
  • Tickets fully refundable up to 5 days prior to the event, using the link at the bottom of the order email. Within 5 days of the event, tickets are transferable but not refundable.

Our COVID precautions include:

  • Requiring proof of vaccination and booster, if eligible, for all attendees, staff, etc – absolutely no exceptions. Sufficient proof of vaccinated status is a state/federally issued vaccine card, a photograph of your card, or digital vaccine record from the State of California showing that you are two weeks past the initial vaccine course. If your initial vaccine course was more than 6 months prior to the event, you must also have received a booster. Attendees who arrive without proof of vaccination per the parameters above will not be allowed entry, and will not have their tickets refunded.
  • Performing a symptom screen (including touchless temperature check) and attestation at the door.
  • Strictly limiting capacity to allow for physical distancing. Note that Little Boxes is large and airy, with 2 story ceilings and square footage capacity far, FAR exceeding our ticket cap.
  • Bringing portable air purifiers with HEPA filters.
  • Providing hand sanitizer throughout the space.
  • Masking – see below

We provide and require n95/kn95 masks – you can put them under your cute cloth mask! These masks provide very robust protection, even with one-way masking, regardless of what anyone around you is doing.

  • The instructor will test within 2 hours of the event, and will wear an n95 mask except while lecturing in front of the class and 6+ feet distanced from attendees.

As always, despite all mitigation efforts, exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any location where people are present. When deciding whether attending in-person events at this time is right for you, please weigh your individual risk factors (health conditions, unvaccinated or immunocompromised contacts, age, and so on) to take care of yourselves and those around you.
