You know a single-column tie. Great! Now what?
Shibari is an artform that has gained major popularity in recent years. It is a wonderful way to connect with yourself and/or your partner.
This class focuses on one of the most overlooked rope skills: rope handling. Before complex patterns or elaborate harnesses, good rope work starts with how you move, manage rope, and maintain connection with your partner.
In this hands-on class we’ll work with the single-column tie you already know as a foundation while exploring practical rope skills like managing tension, feeding rope smoothly, positioning your body around your partner, and keeping scenes flowing without getting tangled or stuck.
Rather than learning a dozen new knots, we’ll focus on building confidence and efficiency with the rope in your hands. These skills will make every tie you learn later cleaner, safer, and more intentional.
This class is designed to give you the rope fluency that makes tying feel less like following instructions and more like moving with purpose and control.
Shibari is an artform that has gained major popularity in recent years. It is a wonderful way to connect with yourself and/or your partner. From the meditative and relaxing process of building patterns and structure with rope, to the sensory grounding experience of focusing on the texture of the rope, and the many somatic health benefits of simply being held by the rope - the content of this class will increase your tool kit to explore those spaces, and connect with partners.
You must already know how to tie a single column tie. We will not be teaching it in this class.
Skyla is a rope educator and co-producer of Tethered Together, where she helps cultivate spaces for learning, creativity, and connection within the rope and kink community. Her teaching focuses on rope handling, intentional power exchange, and the subtle ways rope can deepen dynamic and presence between partners. Rather than emphasizing complex patterns, Skyla encourages students to build confidence with the rope in their hands—developing the tension, movement, and awareness that make scenes feel fluid and alive. Known for blending practical technique with thoughtful exploration of D/s dynamics, her classes invite participants to approach rope with curiosity, intention, and a willingness to play.
