Description

Hosted by Feather & Flame in Burlington, MA

Explore rope blending both Western-style and Japanese-style Shibari focused on restriction and embodied control.

This workshop is inspired by cowboy bondage - think tied to the train tracks, cops and robbers, tied to a chair - and invites a playful approach to exploring rope with your partner!

You will practice tools and build skills to capture the body effectively. We’ll begin with simple tools and knots optimized for these types of scene play, then we’ll move through two different applications from tying your partner to another object and how to apply those same skills to even tie your partner to themselves. Along the way, we’ll explore our motivations and cultural contexts that motivate this kind of play, both historically and contemporaneously. This class will be co-taught by Mr. R and Arby.

As always, Feather & Flame classes are taught within a framework of enthusiastic consent and informed risk awareness. Our favorite consent frameworks include FRIES and RACK.

Inside This Class We’ll Cover:

  • Historical and contemporary contexts
  • Secure single and double column ties
  • Safety and Consent considerations with this type of play
  • Blending Western and Japanese Styles
  • How to manage a wiggly rope bottom
  • How to connect with your partner - be it a friend, play partner, or romantic partner - by exploring play together

Shibari is an artform that has gained major popularity in recent years. It is a wonderful way to connect with yourself and/or your partner. From the meditative and relaxing process of building patterns and structure with rope, to the sensory grounding experience of focusing on the texture of the rope, and the many somatic health benefits of simply being held by the rope - the content of this class will increase your tool kit to explore those spaces, and connect with partners.

About the Instructors:

Mr. R has been a rigger and bondage enthusiast for over a decade. Boston-based, his interests are ever evolving as he explores his own erotic mind. He enjoys the time it takes to create a scene through the transition of power offered by consensual bondage. He desires to create various feelings of vulnerability, exposure, submission, discomfort, and control through the art and media of bondage. Mr.R is a founding member of Bondage N Boston (founded 2023) to provide bondage education and community to adults in the Boston and Providence areas.

Arby has been a rope bottom since 2021, and he uses rope as a way to practice mindfulness and embodiment of his physical form. While in rope, Arby tries to find the points of failure in rope to better inform the mental and physical aspects of capture, endurance, and struggle.
