Description

March with the Bloom Team + Community at the SF Pride 2022 Resistance Contingent! We'll be at the very front of the parade with the SF Pride Board and other partners. You can optionally buy a Bloom t-shirt which will be given to you at the march. Otherwise, we ask you to wear your favorite purple shirt to help our contingent stand out!

It has been a San Francisco Pride tradition to showcase a facet of the LGBTQI2S community at the front of the parade each year — a unique commitment to maintaining the roots of Pride and honoring our collective history. This year’s theme, Love will Keep Us Together, is a statement that no matter what happens in life, Love will Keep us together. We have stuck with each other through so many divisive and regressive challenges with dynamic strength and vigorous dialogue. Community will always rise to the top as long as love is present.

We continue to see anti trans bills proposed. Targeting trans and nonbinary youth, these bills aim to limit ability to receive gender affirming care, use the bathroom matching their gender identity, and threatens their participation in sports. These laws are an attempt to make it easier to punish trans & nonbinary folks for simply existing. We must stand up and fight with every breath that we have. After careful consideration the board collectively made the decision to lead off the 52nd Annual Parade with a protest contingent highlighting the issues faced by our TGNC communities.

Eschewing the usual floats and music, representatives from about 20 diverse organizations will lead the Parade with an all-on-foot March down Market Street. Highlighting concerns ranging from trans rights, BLM, reproductive rights, immigration policies, and the continued profiling and persecution of Black folks. These voices will lead the normally celebratory event with a political statement reminiscent of the very milestone it commemorates — The Stonewall Rebellion.

With over 200 parade contingents and exhibitors, and more than twenty community-run stages and venues, the San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade is the largest gathering of the LGBT community and allies in the nation. Celebrations begin on a Saturday in Civic Center Plaza in downtown San Francisco the last full weekend of June each year. The Parade, which takes place the Sunday morning of the event, kicks off from Beale Street along Market and ends at Market and 8th St. in the heart of downtown San Francisco.
