Key of The Satyr Auditions

CALL FOR CAST + CREW — DENVER, CO — OCT 3rd

Key of the Satyr is seeking artists, performers, and production crew for an immersive erotic art expo and ritual performance exploring voyeurism, desire, sadomasochism, myth, and the ecstatic spirit of Dionysus and the Satyrs.

The audience will switch between being seated and moving through the space. They will interact with and witness performances, engage in interactive experiences, view a curated photography gallery, and break the traditional audience-versus-performer binary throughout the night.

The event runs from 6:30 PM until after midnight.

Come help us create an evening of intentionally curated ritual performance and feral imagination that are guided by mytho-erotic art and storytelling.

The roles we are auditioning for :

1. Satyrs + Nymphs :
   rustic nature spirits that represent the forces of the physical world.

This may look like :
•⁠ roles having the most direct interaction with the audience;
ambient/wandering character performance.
•⁠ setting the atmosphere
•⁠ being comfortable with improv and crowd work
•⁠ having a few spoken lines and/or being given something to read aloud

2. Butoh : The Haunted Body of the evening and voice of the Underworld.

This will be part of an ensemble performance, and will be a main act. Dance background encouraged, but not completely required.

3. Bouffons: Gatekeepers and mockers of society/ sacred clowns...a dark, satirical performance style originating from French theater.

This will be part of an ensemble performance, as well.
And will be a main act.
What this will require :
•⁠ Comfort with modern dance and improv acting will be necessary
•⁠ Vocal and physical performance
•⁠ Comfort with being absurd

4. Exhibitionists: Seen through the keyhole, they are performers who bring our audience into the embodiment of voyeurism, which is different from being a traditional audience member.

This may look like :
•⁠ ⁠pantomimed 'slice-of-life' scenes performed by duets; a living tableau
•⁠ ⁠being able to convey emotion and hold tension through subtle, physical acting
•⁠ ⁠choreographed scenes that will be short and repeated over a longer duration

5. Backstage Crew and set design volunteers

Auditions will run on October 3rd at The Dallas Arts Center in Aurora.

No prepared piece is required. Just a sense for how you'd like to participate in the evening and within which role. You will be given prompts from our resident Movement Director. Wear comfortable clothes to move in that you are okay potentially getting dirty. There may floorwork prompts.

REHEARSAL COMMITMENT

All rehearsals held October through the show on December 5th

Every role attends the final run-through.

Butoh — approx. 6 hrs across 2–4 sessions
Bouffon — approx. 6 hrs across 2–4 sessions
Exhibitionists — approx. 3 hrs across 1–2 sessions
Satyrs / Nymphs (incl. Guards) — 1 hr
Backstage — full call only

Full cast & crew run-through — 3 hrs (all roles)

Key of the Satyr is a 21+ event centered on erotic art, ritual, voyeurism, and sadomasochistic expression. Performers and crew should expect exposure to mature themes, sensual and erotic performances, partial nudity, and consensual BDSM imagery or activity.

By participating, you confirm that you are at least 21 years old and comfortable working within an explicitly adult environment. All boundaries will be respected, and no performer or crew member will be expected to participate in any activity beyond their clearly communicated consent which will be negotiated extensively beforehand at rehearsals.
