Description

Join us for a mini-intensive with fuoco about harness components and invention! This class will include: 1) Understanding the Body in Rope (through Hojo Cuffs and Minimalism), 2) Considering Harness Structures in Context, and 3) Design Time.

'
Class Description Take a deep dive into harnesses. We'll cover how to position the body, why to choose certain friction over another, and anticipating how harnesses will behave under load. Students will leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of familiar patterns, as well as the knowledge and tools to adapt or even invent their own harnesses. This workshop is perfect for practitioners who have learned a lot of patterns but want to build a deeper understanding of why harnesses work, and is also appropriate for practitioners who are just starting to dip their toes into the world of suspension.

Class Prerequisites: Tops should be familiar with suspendable harness patterns and common components, like X frictions, L frictions, and hojo cuffs. Tops should know how to safely lock an upline and untie quickly. Bottoms should be able to communicate critical information about your safety under stress and at least intellectually aware of the difference between circulation loss and nerve compression symptoms.

Presenter Bio: fuoco (she/her) began her rope journey as a bottom in Phoenix in 2012 and shortly thereafter moved to London, where much of her early rope learning happened. Upon moving back to the US, she began presenting at cons and intensives around the country sharing her love of rope. As an educator, she's decidedly non-dogmatic in her approach to teaching. Her classes aim to help bottoms to better understand their bodies in movement, and to offer riggers the knowledge to adapt their tying to the unique needs of their partners. She recently stepped into the role of Director of Education for Shibari Study and is excited to think about shibari education in a new medium. Visit her website at cuttheleash.com

We are implementing a maximum capacity of 10 tying pairs (20 attendees) due to limited space, so if you want to come, you should quickly reserve your tickets online. If the class fills up, we may consider allowing additional attendees to audit. You can reserve a ticket online and pay for it an alternate way if you want to avoid this site's processing fees; just select the appropriate ticket and pay for it using one of the other methods listed. We accept cash, checks, credit/debit cards, PayPal (@BoxTieStudio), Venmo (@boxtiestudio), and Cashapp ($ropespaced). If you pay one of these ways ahead of time (not at the door), please indicate which order it's for (the email address on your order works).

Some other notes for the group:

  1. Please review our group rules. You can also print and sign our Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct Agreement from the same page on our website. If you don't, we'll have you sign them when you check in. We'll also check your ID when you sign in to verify your age. If you've signed waivers/had your ID checked before, you don't need to do so again.
  2. Bring a blanket or yoga mat to sit or tie on, if desired, as well as water, rope, and safety shears. There are a few chairs.
  3. Vanilla to the door, no nudity inside; genitals and anuses must be covered.
  4. We will expect you to come with a partner to this class, as not everything will be self-tie friendly.
  5. Please don't attend if you're feeling ill or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 (review symptoms here). If you can't attend due to illness, we'll refund your tickets fully. We don't care what the CDC says about isolation; if you test positive for COVID within 5 days of this class, have had a known exposure, or are feeling ill, please do not come and spread your germs.
  6. You can start arriving at 11:15. Please try to arrive early! We will be closing the doors at 11:50 and making opening remarks so we can start ASAP. If you know you're going to be late, please text Cait at (207) 558-2930. If you arrive and the door is locked, please knock loudly and/or call Cait, as our doorbell is broken :(
  7. There is plenty of parking. When you turn onto Ingersoll Drive, the parking lot is the first left, and we are the first building on the left. We are the second-floor end unit; you'll see large windows and skylights from outside. Please text Cait at (207) 558-2930 if you have trouble finding us.
  8. No guns or other weapons are allowed on the premises.
  9. There is no smoking indoors. Please step outside to smoke.
  10. Use of drugs and/or alcohol is not allowed. If you are suspected to be under the influence, you will be ejected from the event without a refund.
  11. Tickets are $150/tying pair (early bird pricing has ended). We strive to make rope education accessible to everyone. If the ticket cost isn't feasible or would create undue hardship for you, please contact us and we can work something out!
  12. There are 3 short concrete steps to get into the building, and a carpeted staircase to get into the studio on the second floor. Unfortunately, there is no elevator access.
  13. Our dog does come to the studio sometimes, and while we strive to keep it as clean as possible, there may still be dog fur present. If you have allergies, please keep this in mind.

If you have any other questions, please reach out to us! You can also contact @ropespaced (Cait), @Griffin207 (Jack), @ragdollbaby (Grace), or @Bratty_Beck (Beck) on FetLife. Otherwise, we hope to see you there!
